Impact of a new conceptualized anti-reflux Trumpet stent on the quality of life of patients with advanced carcinoma of the cardio-oesophageal junction

Objectives: To evaluate a newly developed, self-expandable anti-reflux Trumpet (ART) stent customized for cardio oesophageal junctional (COJ) cancer on the feasibility of deployment, migration, quality life, and symptom reliefDesign: Prospective case series, Proof concept pilot studySetting: Tertiary Health Care Center, Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Seremban, Malaysia. Department Surgery.Participants: A total 17 patients diagnosed with advanced COJ tumour who had never undergone any surgical, endoscopic, or chemoradiotherapy indicated stenting were recruitedInterventions: The study period was over nine months, follow-up one-month post-stenting.Main outcome measures: Endpoint measures deployment new design, symptoms relief, early complication, GERD Q score, (QOL)assessment.Results: ART inserted successfully in all cases (17/17, 100%). There two migrations due to flexibility at neck. no post-stenting complications associated procedure. good flow contrast seen stents deployed. score low pre post-stenting. Post-stenting there relief dysphagia, weight gain, 60% improvement QOL score.Conclusions: is feasible technically successful tumours. It provides improves QOL, has minimal complications.
